Charles Dickens’ 1843 ‘A Christmas Carol’, portrays the true meaning of Christmas: good will to all men and compassion. It tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the owner of a money house in London who is completely anti-Christmas. He thinks that everyone should work every day including Christmas and those who don’t are “ill-used” because they still get paid for a day’s work.
But, even seven year`s later, he is just as bitter as he was when his partner, Jacob Marley dies. So, he hires Bob Cratchit to work for him. He doesn’t pay Bob very much money and him and his entire family are living in poverty. Bob has five kids and the youngest has a condition and needs a crutch. But he doesn’t let that bring him down.
On Christmas Eve, while Scrooge is in his bedroom preparing for bed, he is visited by the ghost of Marley. He is told that he will be visited by three spirits and if he doesn`t change his ways before the morning after Christmas, he will become like Marley and carry the chains of all his wrong-doings in his past. Scrooge doesn’t believe him at first, until he is visited by the Ghost of Chrismtas Past who shows him how he went from an outcast, to a friend who everyone enjoyed being around, to a rich, self-centered enemy that no one wants anything to do with.
He is then visited by the Ghost of Christmas Present who shows him how bad life really is for the Cratchit’s and just how much he is disliked by everyone in that household except for Bob who really appreciates what Ebenezer does for them. He is also shown how much his nephew really loves him even though everyone else hates him.
And finally, he is paid a visit by the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. He sees that he will die and no one will even care. All of his stuff will be sold by his housemaid so that she has a few extra bucks. The only person that will actually care is his nephew Fred. And that Tiny Tim won’t get the care and services he needs and will die.
Fortunately for Ebenezer, he realizes that he was a bad person and decides to change his ways. The day after Christmas morning, he purchases a huge turkey for Bob and arrives at work earlier than usual so he can catch Bob being late. He was late as expected and at first, Scrooge seems cross with his clerk. But finally, Scrooge announces that Bob is getting a raise.
And everyone lives happily ever after. As each book should.
Personally, I find this book one that should be read by all. The old-style English makes this story a little harder to read but, in the end, it all makes sense and it’s meaning very understood. Many movies have been made based on this classic book. I, personally, have only seen the Disney version starring Scrooge McDuck and Mickey Mouse.
However, the Citadel Theatre in downtown Edmonton puts on a terrific play adapted by Tom Wood. It’s very well put together and is put on annually. I reccommend anyone who gets the chance to go see it to do so. For more details on the dates, go to www.citadeltheatre.com.

.Whenever Dominic saw something, a structure or a tall object he wondered how he could get to the top. Dominic is only thirteen and he is very short, but he loved the thrill of climbing anything. Instead of using the stairs he gets out to the front yard through his window. He grasps each brick carefully and like a spider quickly shuffles down to the bottom. He was born in a house of climbers. His brother, a very tall 16 year old named Chris was better than Dominic at climbing because of his size. Dominic’s dad taught him everything to know about climbing. Dominic’s mom thought Dominic new a little to much about climbing.
There was a contest that Dominic wanted to enter but because he was very short the only way he could be in the contest was to win a wild card spot. The only way to get a wild card spot was to collect a letters to spell EVEREST. The letters were either on the rappers of Summit Energy Bars or under the caps of Summit Energy drinks. Four kids would be able to climb Mount Everest, but the kids would have to go through months of agonizing training to try to gain a spot in the top four. Although very short and skinny for his age, Dominic could keep up with all the competitors at the training camp. Even his lung x- rays were just as good or better than the other kids’.
The Summitquest team’s goal it to attempted to put a young teen to the top of Mount Everest. In the previous year Summitquest put Ethan Zaff a.k.a. “Z-Man,” who was 15 years old at the time, which meant that Summitquest would need a 14 year old or younger to climb. Dominic’s older brother Chris was a shoe in until Summitquest announced that they we going for the goal. Dominic felt quilt when he saw his older, more experienced brother go home before he did. Tilt Crowley, Sammi Moon, Perry Nooman and Dominic Alexis all made the team. There team leader is Cap Cicero, he has summited Everest many times and has the most experience of all climbers. .Breaking Dawn is the final book in the Twilight Saga written by the famous best selling author, Stephenie Meyer. Many themes are demonstrated in this book including love, decision making, self discovery, trust, and loyalty. Meyers powerful way of writing is attention grabbing and can help you recognize the themes that the book is based on. I felt strong feelings towards the characters while I was reading and my interest was completely captured from start to end. The diverse perspectives of all the characters is in relation to the ones we have in our ever day lives between different cultures and races. Although there is many differences in between the families and groups in this book they manage to work together to achieve their goals no one had thought possible. This to me is an important life lesson, we cannot give up until we are defeated. There is always hope and anyone can beat the odds.
Tension and apprehensiveness is present in the early chapters of Breaking Dawn as Bella and Edward near their wedding date. But both quickly realize that they have been looking forward to the day more than they thought as soon as the words “i do” are spoken. Bellas old friend Jake returns after a long journey to see her on her wedding day. When they are reunited, it is like each of them area completed once more. In search of themselves, they both discover it has been in front of them the entire time. Although they are both from completely different backgrounds, they know this shouldn’t keep them apart. But Bella and Edward are scheduled to leave for their honeymoon that night and they departed once again.
Located on a private island, Edward and his new wife Bella enjoy themselves for a month until Bella appears to be extremely sick. In a panick, Bella comes to the conclusion that she is pregnant. And though it has only been days, it looks like she is ready to give birth. Scared and confused by the rapid pregancy, the couple fly home to Edwards father Carlisle who is a doctor. Carlisle comes to the conclusion that Bellas rapid pregancy is caused by her mortality and Edwards immortality as a vampire. Now everyone is faced with a difficult decision. The potential risk of Bellas baby killing her is high as it continues to drain her of life. But Bellas motherly instincts tell her that she will do anything for this baby, including giving her life. Her family and friends try to convince her to do what is right and save herself, but the pressure does not get to Bella and she refuses. Bellas perserverence pays off as the baby is delivered a while later even though she shares a close brush with death. To save her, Edward bites her spreading his venom into her heart and makes her an immortal.
Pain like fire, nothing is worse when it is trapped inside of you. The process of becoming a vampire is worse than death itself. But Bella knows that her never-ending life ahead is worth it. When she awakes, everything seems clearer and she feels immensely strong. For the first time, Bella meets her baby girl Renesemee or rather, her tottler. Renesemee ages at a pace that resembled Bellas pregnancy. Only 3 days after birth Renesemee is much like a one year old. Bella quickly adjusts to her new life and is happier than she has ever been.
Before long, a crisis appears as Alice, Bellas sister-in-law envisions the Volturi coming for them to destroy Renesemee because she poses as a threat to the secrecy of the vampire world. Everyone knew that their fate rested in the hands of the Volturi. To prepare for their arrival coming in the next month or so, the Cullen clan began to search far and wide for their vampire friends to act as witnesses. If they could pose as a threat this could give them time to explain why Renesemee would not pose any form of danger for the vampire secrecy. Truth and justice had to be served. According to law, Renesemee was not breaking any rules. It was up to the Cullens to prove just that. Sometmes there is a very fine line between what is right and what is wrong. It is easy to confuse the two when you weigh pros and cons determining what is the law and what is morally right.
When the Volturi arrived, the Cullens and their 26 witnesses were prepared. They were able to buy some time to explain why Renesemee wasn’t breaking any laws and prove that she was in fact, half mortal and half immortal. After a long deliberation, the Volturi decided that there was no point in starting a fight when there simply wasn’t any justice to be served. Combined with the perseverance, willingness, trust and bonds between the people who supported the Cullens, everyone was able to go free. Edward, his wife Bella, and their daughter Renesemee were able to live together in peace.
Now that the series has come to an end, I have concluded these are some of the best books I have read. Chances are I will probably read them again. It teaches so many different life lessons in a way that you learn without realizing. As the main characters were in search of themselves, they tumbled upon learning to love, to never give up, and find their own strengths deep within themselves. Many people can easily relate to the emotions expressed in the book. I would recommend this series to anyone as the books ony get better and better.

.Skater Stuntboys is one of the books in the Extreme Series made by teen author Pam Withers. Pam address many issues that young adults have to face every day and what the characters do about their problems. These books are great for teen readers as they can relate themselves to the story and understand the emotions brought forward by this book. I was able to relate to the feelings that Pam wanted the readers to understand which made the book that much more interesting for me. I really got sucked in by this book and for the first time, for me anyway, I really enjoyed this novel. I believe everyone could relate themselves to this story somehow and enjoy what it has to offer.
Pam wants readers to understand that even though life continually drags you down, you must stay positive and life will get better. Jake and his friend Peter are working at Sam’s Adventure Tour and they are fantasied about skate boarding. I myself tried skateboarding with my old friend and I fell on my first try so I never devolved an interest about skate boarding. There was a multi-million dollar skate park being built called Xtreme Sk8, Jake and Peter were stoked to go and skate there. A group of mean wanna-be BMXers wanted to ride on the park, everyone knows that BMX bikes cause to much damage to skateparks. They threatened Jake and Peter but they didn’t allow them to do anything. You must always stand for what you believe is right.
Pam wants all teen readers to understand that you must push yourself to your full potential. Jake had been heartbroken since his dad took off about 3 years ago. He felt his game wasn’t up to par and his memories of his dad made him somewhat depressed and he couldn’t focus on any of the stunts and tricks with Peter. I would be lost and devastated if I lost one of my parents and this age. Jake and Peter were also excited to compete in the movie competition, were skaters from all around would show there stuff and the top two would be in a action movie. Jake felt that something was wrong but he ignored his feeling and participated anyway.
Pam tells us, through her writing, that even when the odds are against you, you must try your best and you will shine. Jake believed that he didn’t have a shot at this because he wasn’t good enough, Peter on the other hand couldn’t be any cockier. I myself would be nervous but I would have to be confident, negative thoughts only bring you down. When Jake was preforming his tricks a mental Sk8 park worker jumped on the ramp making Jake crash. The mental was telling Jake that someone is messing with the screws and he must fix them. Marco wanted the mental fired before he fixed the ramp. I don’t want to spoil what happens so I am going to stop there. This is a great book to read for all ages and I recommend this bookfor all to read.
Ideas of trust, drepression, corruption makes any book great and interesting to read. This is definitly the case with this book, I never have gotten this interested with a book before. I actually wanted to read it and finish it. From start to finish I was intersted, this novel has no boring segments, and action is present all througout the book. The plot teaches us how to react with feeling of drepression and trust. This is my favorite book, at the moment, and I highly recommend Skater Stuntboys to everyone.

.Red is for Remembrance is about a girl, Stacey Brown, who has stumbled upon a tragic moment in her life. Stacey decides that in order to move on, she has to put the past behind her. With that, she and her friends, Amber and PJ, get accepted into Beacon University.
Everything seemed to be going as good as can be expected until she starts to have nightmares again.
This book was great to read. It was easy to get completely captivated into the characters’ emotions and the plot itself and it teaches you to never lose hope even in the worst of times which is important to remember. At some point in their life, everyone will have to deal with a serious and devistating issue so the crucial concept to keep in mind would be that there is always hope. Giving up would be like moving backwards, and to move forward and get on with your life would be the best.
The author makes it seem like its a real teenager telling about her life. Having a book with a real-life feel to it is important. The reader will simply be drawn into the book that much more.
Red is for Remembrance is a book that has a few challenging words but for the most part very easy to read. It would be a great book for girls in their teens to read a book like this because the genre of book and the way its written will get more girls into reading and actually enjoy it rather than it seem like a chore.

.In the book Elsewhere, Gabrielle Zevin, has an enormous load of creativity, and fantasies to make the book addicting.
When Elizabeth Marie Hall wakes up on a cruise ship named the SS Nile, she is convinced she is just experiencing a regular dream. After getting up and exploring the room, she makes noise, and wakes up her partner she shares a bunk with. Her bunk mate is named Thandiwe Washington, but just likes to be called Thandi. When the who of them set out to explore the ship they walk up to the dining area and realizes they are the only two fifteen-year old on the ship. Elizabeth thinks this has just can’t get any worse, being on a senior cruise, but then she realizes she has her long blonde hair, buzzed away, and above her right ear she has mysterious stitches, and doesn’t remember where they’ve come from. Elizabeth tries explaining it to Thandi, and Thandi feels her head and realizes she has a hole at the base of her neck. Elizabeth has never dreamed so vividly before, and then she realizes. Everyone on the SS Nile is dead, and they are headed to a place just like Heaven, but instead called Elsewhere.
At first, Elizabeth cannot bear to accept that she is dead, and can never go back to Earth and never live her life again. When they arrive at Elsewhere, she makes the decision to get off the ship, instead of going back to become a ghost. When she steps off the ship she meets, an always sunny, perfect world, where no one ever gets older. The inhabitants of Elsewhere grow younger. After they become babies they are sent down the river back to Earth to become someone new on Earth. In a way the book reminds me of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, although Benjamin isn’t in Elsewhere dead.
On the Island of Elsewhere, Elizabeth meets her Grandmother, who now is 36, that she has never met. A bond between Elizabeth and her grandmother grows, although, Elizabeth becomes addicted to the Observation Deck where she can see what is going on, back on Earth. This causes Elizabeth to become very depressed seeing, how everyone is dealing with her death and how it’s affecting her brother, Alvy. When Elizabeth finds a special way to communicate with her family, she is willing to do anything, to talk with them. Even though, communicating with Earth is illegal, she does it anyway. While Elizabeth is trying to communicate with her family, and telling her brother where a birthday present is, she is caught by Owen Welles, the person who acts as the authority.
Elizabeth finds falling into a relationship with him, and Owen finds himself falling as well. When Owen’s wife from dies, Owen quickly forgets what started between him and Elizabeth, however Elizabeth is hesitant to forget. As the story progresses Elizabeth finds a way to get back to Earth faster as a sneaker. She is only allowed to leave if she has ben in Elsewhere for longer than a year and has accepted death. Elizabeth takes this route to Earth only to realize that it’s definitely not what she wanted. The only way to return to Elsewhere, is if a certain person comes to save her, but Elizabeth doesn’t know if he has moved on and forgotten about her.
Elsewhere is a book that I would never would of imagined of reading, but the characters, and the new world Gabrielle Zevin created is very intriguing. Elsewhere is one of my favorite books, and i encourage you to read the book.

.Throughout “A Handful of Time,” Kit Pearson based this story on the theory of time travel. I don’t believe traveling through time is very likely, but it makes an intriguing plot for a fiction, much like this one. Kit Pearson introduces her readers to Patricia Potter, a shy twelve year old girl who learns of her mother’s past and uses it to overcome obstacles and discover her identity.
Patricia Potter is sent to Alberta to visit her aunt and uncle at the lake, while her parents work out their divorce. Within days, it is obvious that she doesn’t fit in with her cousins. She can’t paddle a canoe and has never built a fort or fished. Her Aunt Ginnie’s sympathy for Patricia continues to get Kelly, Trevor, Christie, and Peggy into trouble, even when Patricia would rather tend to the baby or help her aunt in the kitchen. They make a deal that when they are out of the adult’s sight, they split up and meet again before dinner. This way, Patricia can go off on her own while her cousins go off and do their activities without her. Patricia’s isolation leads her to “La Petit,” a small cabin her family owns. As she explores her new hideout, she also discovers an old watch hidden beneath a loose floorboard. The golden watch is inscribed with “For my dear Patricia, with fondest love from Wilfred.” The watch belongs to her grandmother. When she winds this watch, she discovers that time in the present pauses and she is thrown back through time to the summer when her mother was twelve. Invisible in the past, Patricia follows her mother and uncles, through their daily lives. She endures her mother’s struggles with strict parents, unfair sibling treatment, and the persuasion to be “ladylike.” While living in two time periods, Patricia begins to realize how similar her and her mother really are, and gives her time to sort out her feelings about the divorce. She uses the watch to escape the bullying of her cousins, and learns of her family’s history. Patricia’s secret teaches her about her identity and self-discovery. After her grandmother’s visit, the watch unexpectedly breaks and is unable to wind Patricia into the past. With two weeks left in her vacation, Trevor accidentally cuts his foot with an axe, and the responsibilities of baby Rosemary and the household fall into the hands of Kelly and Christie. As they struggle to cope with Rosemary’s wailing and their inability to make dinner, Kelly and her cousins become grateful for Patricia. She is able to calm the baby and prepare a special dinner for Trevor. Acceptance is reached when Patricia spends more time with her cousins and is surprised by her fishing, canoe, and swimming talents. Her mother returns early and presents her with the divorce details and provides Patricia the choice of who she wants to live with. Considering her mother is going to London, but her dad is moving in with Johanna, the new woman in his life, Patricia decides she will build her relationship with her mother in London. Her cousins beg her to come back next summer, and she is quite positive she wants to. Her mother confesses to Patricia about the watch and how 35 years ago, she hid it beneath the floorboards. On her way back home to Ontario, they decide to stop in Calgary to visit Patricia’s grandmother and return her long lost watch.
Kit Pearson added excitement to the original summer at the lake story. I can’t imagine being Patricia and never having the chance to experience the lake. I love the lake and my summer would ultimately be ruined if I didn’t have the chance to go. I wouldn’t recommend this book to older readers, as Kit Pearson wrote for an audience aged 8-16. I enjoyed this book, but I would probably enjoy a more mature book much better.

.In If I Have a Wicked Stepmother, Where’s My Prince? Lucy Norton’s father remarries, and moves to New York she finds herself living Cinderella’s life. Just like Cinderella, Lucy’s mother died, Her father got remarried, and Lucy acquired an evil step mom as well as two evil step sisters. Along with her newly acquired family, she suddenly has a list of chores, a basement dungeon for a bedroom, and moving to her new school caused her to be friendless. Besides her love of basketball, art, and not listening to her stepmother tell her what to do, all Lucy can think about is the fact that Cinderella got Prince Charming.
One day sitting at her usually un-occupied lunch seat, two popular girls, Jennifer and Madison, sit down beside Lucy and start talking to each other, not acknowledging Lucy was seated there. Jennifer and Madison’s boyfriend comes to meet them as well as Conner Pearson, the school’s basketball king, which is the most popular boy in school. Over hearing the three boy’s conversation about the outcome of the basketball game tonight Lucy sub-consciously lets it slip that she knows that L.A. is going to win. A soon as she says her point she immediately regrets that she opened her mouth. Conner calms down his friends, and quickly explains why they are so passionate about Chicago, and as he turned, everyone saw that he winked at Lucy. Immediately after the small wink, she has Jennifer and Madison at her side becoming her friend.
The outcomes from the night’s game was in Lucy’s favor. L.A. won against Chicago. The next day after lunch, Lucy sat with Jennifer and Madison, her new best friends, thanks to a small wink. Jennifer and Madison tell Lucy that Conner invited her to watch him play basketball on Friday night, and then he is going to take her out the local restaurant, Pizzolla’s.
After that Friday night, Lucy experiences instant popularity from all her classmates except one. Sam Tanner. Sam was in Lucy’s art class and he clearly was the most talented artist Lucy has ever met, or seen. The fact that Lucy cannot even hold a conversation with Sam worries her. Then after they meet at an art opening, it’s the complete opposite, Sam has no problems talking with her, and Lucy finds her self day dreaming about her Prince Charming only, this Prince is not who I was expecting.
Melissa Kantor brings you into the modern-day fairly tale of Cinderella with hilarious ways of putting things and sarcasm to make it even funnier. I definitely would recommend this book to teenage girls.

.Skipper is a fanatic when it comes to comic books. He especially loves his Masked Mutant Books. The Masked Mutant is the most powerful, most evil Supervillain of all man kind. The Masked Mutant can change into any shape or form as long as it is a solid object.
Skipper had all the Mask Mutant comics and received a new copy of the book every month of the year. Skipper had to go to the orthodontist. On the same street as the orthodontist was the comic book store. Skipper thought he would go in the store for a sneak peak of the new copy. Skipper road the bus to the orthodontist and usually it was pretty quite, but that day he met a girl. The girl’s name was Libby. She also like comics but she read boring comics. Libby thought they were funny and unique but Skipper hated them and thought they were boring. Libby was distracting to Skipper and Skipper lost track of where he was.
Skipper asked the bus driver to stop the bus. Skipper was lost, but it was Libby’s stop so she new where she was. Skipper looked around the neighborhood and noticed a pink building that look a bit like a fire hydrant. The building had green dome roofs and dome windows. Skipper stared at the strange building long and hard. The building was in the Masked Mutant book. The building was the secret layer of the Masked Mutant. Skipper missed his appointment and got back on the bus. Skipper rushed home to read his new book. The building was the exact same as in the book.
After Skipper’s next appointment he rushed to the building but it had disappeared. In the book Masked Mutant said that no one could find his secret layer because there is an invisible curtain. Skipper new something was up and made his way to the building. He took two steps more and he could see it again. Skipper was right. The boy took a deep breath and opened the door and stepped inside. Skipper felt a weird beam off light on him as he stepped toward the front desk. The building looked empty but he could hear some one yelling for help.
The yell was coming from upstairs so Skipper ran upstairs to see something extraordinary. The Masked Mutant and the Galloping Gazelle were fighting to the death. The evil villain kills the Gazelle and turns to Skipper. The Mutant was about to kill Skipper but the clever boy said he was Elastic boy. The only way to kill Elastic boy was to pour acid on him. The Mutant quickly changed in to acid and drained away. Skipper had killed the most evil Supervillain in the world.
This book was great. The was a great plot, funny characters and interesting detail that will really make you think. I recommend this book to all ages.

.I loved reading Hit and Run by Lurlene McDaniel. She is a very talented writer that twisted the drama of high school into four unique perspectives. When I began reading, it seemed like it would be difficult to follow the story while changing to a different character’s view every chapter. This was a different technique of writing but it was the perfect way as it clearly stated each person’s opinion and expressed their guilt, pain, hope, and personality.
Hit and Run introduces the reader to four main characters: Analise, Laurie, Quin, and Jeremy. Innocent Analise has everything she needs: a caring family, best friend, and boyfriend, Jeremy. After babysitting late one night, Analise follows her regular routine and rides her bike home. Little does she know that this will be her last time. Jeremy, hopelessly in love with Analise and a part-time carpenter, begins to think the worse when a call from Analise’s parents explain she never returned home last night. Laurie can’t stand how her mother continuously reminds her that high school should be the best part of a girl’s life. She doesn’t understand that Laurie isn’t queen bee like her, and fails to live up to her expectations. When high school jock, Quin Palmer asks Laurie to a party, she is overwhelmed and simply ignores the fact that he doesn’t just want to get to know her better. On the ride home, Laurie is awoken by the clash of metal and screeching brakes. Quin examines the car and claims it was just a deer; no need to worry right? When the pieces start to fall into place weeks later, Laurie fears that it was not a deer they hit, but the girl that is now hospitalized in a coma. She confesses her worries to Quin, who ended up ignoring her after she refused to sleep with him. Quin decides that he will let nothing stand in the way of the baseball scholarships that await him after graduation. His father covers up any evidence of the damaged bumper, while Laurie blackmails him into being in a official relationship with her until they graduate to attain her desired popularity. The story goes into the depths of Analise’s thoughts in the hospital bed and effectively displays Jeremy’s pain of watching her suffer. When guilt takes its toll on Laurie and she realizes she can’t force Quin or herself to be happy in their relationship, she confesses the truth to the police and contributes a letter to Analise’s yearbook tribute. It’s too late though, as Analise passes away. Heartbroken, Jeremy decides to put his craftsmanship to use, building the casket he will soon bury his first love in.
“I step back, look over the box. the finish is flawless. “It’s ready.” He leaves, and I know he’ll take his time so I can be alone for little while. One last thing to do. I pick up the plaque and the drill. When the drill stops, quiet comes. I see days without Analise stretching in front of me. When she was in the coma, at least I could see and touch her. Now, I can’t. This is the hardest part for me. I run my fingers over the words burned into the plaque, fighting to keep my cool. Our angel sleeps here. For as long as the world spins and the earth is green with new wood, she will lie in this box and not in my arms. “Goodbye, my angel.”
-Jeremy, Hit and Run; Lurlene McDaniel
Hit and run had an amazing storyline, even with the devastating end. I had never read any book where the reader has to switch characters. This was interesting though, because I always wanted to see what each character thought about the situation and each other. Analise’s death was hard to imagine, as I have never had to cope with the loss of a close friend or peer. Hit and Run could also explain doubt and fears. Analise’s death forced the characters to deal with tragedy. Jeremy found comfort and closure in carpentry, while Laurie overcame her fears by admitting them.
Lurlene McDaniel wrote from the perspectives of both typical teenage boys and girls. I would recommend this book to all young adults because it teaches the life lesson that even when we never wanted to hurt anybody, we make choices that cannot be changed and must accept the consequences to find love, face reality, and go on.

What would you do if you were put in situations that force you choose keeping your family safe or staying with the one you love. It’s rather hard to think about when the one that you love is very critical. In New Moon that is written by Stephanie Meyer one of the main characters “Bella” is put in that exact situation. New moon is the second book in the Twighlight series.
In the first book ‘Twighlight‘ Bella moved to a small town in Washington called Forks where she discovered that she had fallen in love with a vampire, “Edward.” Because she was associated with a vampire many drastic events tended to happen, but as a year of them being together creeped up Edward became very cautious. He realized that being so close to Bella could be very dangerous and his kind could seriously harm her. Edward leave Bella, and he literally leaves her with nothing but a memory.
After Edward leaves Bella goes deep into depression, she basically cuts herself off from everything that could possibly remind her of “him.” Her father eventually can’t take how she is cutting the world off and threatens to make her move back with her mom. She refuses to move so she decides to go to a movie with a old friend. As they are walking to go and eat she senses that she is having De ja vu. She see’s some men standing near a bar, and start approaching them. She realizes that as she gets more associated with danger the more she hears his voice in the back of her head. Bella then became addicted to danger because she strived to hear his voice.
Bella was so desperate to hear his voice she tried to to find different ways to put herself in danger. She decided on something that eventually got her involved with one of her child hood friends, “Jacob Black.” Jacob soon becomes one of her best friends and starts to rely on him to make her happy. After getting her high doses of hearing Edwards voice Jacob soon gets caught up with a well known gang that Bella doesn’t really like.
Bella eventually found out that she was associated with were wolves, some of the Cullens enemies. Bella was caught between choosing sides. After finding out that vampires weren’t the only fairytale monster that actually existed she finds out that Edward is in extreme danger.
Bella goes through a lot of extreme events through out all the Twighlight books. If your a big fan of vampires, intertwined in a romance you’ll love this book. This book is narrated by Bella and explains her feelings and experiences very well.

.The third book of the Twilight saga written by Stephenie Meyer is an intriguing book that I never wanted to put down. It captured my interest mostly because of the constant action and drama. I constantly was pulling for certain characters’ to get their way and for others to fail. The book really made me feel like I was in the story myself.
The setting takes place in the small town of Forks, Washington. Hidden away in the forests, Forks is like any other rural place. There is hardly any excitement and things stay fairly calm. Especially the weather. Rain is a common factor and the sun rarely gets to shine. Although this town is dull and always rainy, it beholds some of the strangest creatures around: A family of vampires who call themselves the Cullens. Dr. Carlsile Cullen and his wife Esme, have 5 adopted children: Edward, Alice, Emmett, Jasper, and Rosalie.
When the chief of polices’ daughter moves in with him, Bella Swan finds little to entertain herself in the gloomy town of Forks. She even starts to look forward to school. That is, until she meets Edward Cullen. At first, Edward seems to hate her and she just can’t understand why. But once she begins to do oher research, Bella discovers that Edward is a vampire. And she is matter-of-factly, is in love with him.
Together, Bella and Edward face many adventures and fall deeply in love. Their relationship is tested many times and presuming that it is best for Bella, Edwards leaves her to live her human life and keep her out of danger. In her grieving Bella becomes close friends with Jacob Black, a werewolf whom she gets along well with. But months later, Edwards believes that Bella is dead so he travels to Italy in order to face the Volturi, a group of “royal” vampires who will kill anyone who does not obey the laws of the sworn secrecy of their kind, and get them to kill him.
Back at home in Forks, Edwards sister Alice, discovers that Bella is very much alive. And it is now their job to assure that Edward does not kill himself. Travelling to Italy they arrive just in time to stop Edward and he confesses his mistakes to Bella promising her that he will never leave again. They return to Forks where everything is safe and sound.
At the beginning of Eclipse, Jacob has written Bella a letter saying that he cannot forgive her for being with his worst enemy, a vampire. But he says he misses her and hopes she is happy. Bella cannot stand not being around Jacob and they quickly became friends again. Although Edward doesn’t like Bella hanging out with a werewolf, he allows her to visit the reserve he lives on called La Push.
Mysterious murders occurring in Seattle begin to show up in local papers and Edward believes that this could be the work of thirsty newborn vampires. A few days later Bella returns home from spending time with Edward and finds that her things have been gone through. The Cullen family is puzzled as to who could be doing this, but they have an idea it could be the newborn vampires and their creator. Alice Cullen starts to see visions of the newborns coming to Forks and they decide that they must come up with an attack plan.
While they wait patiently for the newborns to come closer to Forks, Bella and Edward spend some alone time together and Edward proposes to her. Reluctantly Bella accepts not sure if she is ready for marriage. The night before the battle the Cullen family joins forces with the werewolf pack in order to win the fight. As everyone else prepares for battle, Edward, Bella, and Jacob camp up in the mountains. Jacob spent the night in the tent with Bella and Edward before he could go back to join in on the battle.
When morning comes, Jacob overhears Edward and Bella talking about their engagement and is extremely upset. He threatens to join the fight and get himself killed because Bella doesn’t love him. In order to stop him, Bella kisses Jacob and realizes that she loves him too. Although her feelings for Edward are much stronger. Victoria, a vampire destined to kill Bella for revenge, tracks Edward’s scent to Bella. Edward is forced to fight, although Bella wants to keep him safe. Victoria and her newborn army are destroyed in minutes. Bella then tells Jacob that she does love him, but she can’t live without Edward as her soul mate. When summer begins, Jacob receives a wedding invitation from Edward along with a thank you note for keeping Bella safe. Jacob runs away in his wolf form to escape the pain he feels, angry at Bella’s decision to become a vampire.
I found the end of this book to be slightly disappointing in the way it was written in order to keep you guessing at a dead end. Overall, I would recommend Eclipse to any reader who loves fiction and an action packed romance. It is my favorite book of the series and the best I have read this year.

.I just finished reading a great book called “Goosebumps- Welcome To Dead House”
The book is about a family that inherits their great uncles house in his will. They didn’t think they had a great uncle but they were so desperate to leave there boring life that without question they took the house. The house was much bigger than there old house. The house also needed plenty of work. The old house had creaky floor boards. the children Amanda and Josh. Amanda was really curious and needed to know why they got this house for free. She kept seeing people in her house, either in there big bay windows or on the staircase. Amanda tried telling her parents this but they wouldn’t listen, they told her that is just an old house.
Amanda’s little brother Josh was a trouble maker and decided to take the dog Petey for a walk. Petey was sniffing everywhere and he started running to the grave yard down the street. Josh couldn’t keep up. Petey was acting very strange and that night he ran away. Amanda and Josh snuck out of the house while there parents went to a potluck party. The kids were off to the cemetery to find there dog. They met Mr. Dawes there, he was there real estate agent.
Josh spotted Petey and ran after him. Petey had the advantage since he was small and he could dart around the tombstones easily. Josh finally caught up to Petey but tripped on a short tombstone. It said, ” Compton Dawes.” Amanda and Josh were shocked and scared. They looked at all the tombstones and all there friends were dead. They were living in a dead town. Mr. Dawes explained to the kids that there was a chemical leak at one of the factories and before anyone knew they were all dead. Their family was set up the town needed new blood.
Mr. Dawes was trying to take them to were the town has holding their parents but Josh threw his halogen flashlight right through his forehead. The kids ran to escape but Mr. Dawes didn’t chase them. He had to find shade of else he would be dead forever. The place was the dead stayed for the day was in an under ground amphitheater. Josh and Amanda new that’s where there parents were and the only way to kill the dead and save their parents was to push over the large tree that was shading the amphitheater. The kids shoved and pushed with all there might but the huge tree wouldn’t give. Amanda and Josh gave up, until there heard a the tree crack. It was falling. The golden sun beamed on the dead and the dead started to wail in agony as their skin melted away. When I read this I imagined a the mummy’s face from the “Mummy” Josh rushed down followed by Amanda to free their parents.
Once they were free they packed up as quick as possible and left Dark Falls to their old neighborhood. I recommend reading this book to all ages. It has suspense and it keeps you wanting to read more.

.This story was very interesting. Two neighbors are competing to win a backyard garden contest. When Joe’s dad brings home two creepy looking gnomes, that’s when the trouble starts. The Major already thinks that Joe is going to destroy his yard, so when he finds his melons beat up and thrown all over the next day, Joe is exactly who he blames. But, Joe didn’t do it, the gnomes did. Finally Joe convinces his sister Mindy to go outside and see for herself just what those gnomes are up to one night, and they almost get attacked by a whole bunch of the creepy little gnomes.
I like how this story is about lawn gnomes, they are sweet. The book does a very good job in describing the lawn gnomes. I could easily picture their appearance in my head. I like the cover because the cover shows what the lawn gnomes are doing and in the story, also tells why they do mischief. The cover is the main reason I chose this book, the cover is colorful and caught my attention.
Overall I wasn’t satisfied with the book. Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes wasn’t scary. The book is about ornaments destroying gardens, like come on I thought Goosebumps could do better than writing about gardens being destroyed. By the end of the story the gnomes had caught Joe, Moose, and Mindy. The book is all gardening, there was an entire chapter about the family spraying the tomatoes with insecticide. If R.L. Stine likes gardens so much he should write about gardening in a book that isn’t made to actually scare you.
The author did have memorable cliffhanger at the end of chapter five. The cliffhanger was about Joe and Mindy who were being forced to go to the ornament store with their dad. They thought going to the store would be a nice walk but turned out to be the most horrifying adventure of their lives. Personally I think the idea of any more gardening is pretty scary. To sum up the book I thought the gnomes would at least have scary names, not hap and chip.

.The all new Hardy Boy’s series written by Franklin W. Dixon. The Aladdin Paperbacks edition June 2005was copyrighted in the same year.
The mission was to find the mastermind behind the Big air games. This mission was to be taken place in Philadelphia, Pa. The victims are the big air game athletes and the spectators. The suspents are anyone and everyone.
The book is a fiction about two teenagers that go undercover and stop an attack at the Big Air Games. The two teens get sweet bikes for their trip to Philadelphia. When they get to Philadelphia they meet some of the athletes. They go and meet other competitors at the FRD park.
The book is written as a thriller for children aged 8-16. It is a great suspense/triller that always keeps you reading the next page. Although this book is probably no for girls or people that don’t like violence. The book is one of the few book that I will pick up to read.
I would recommend this book to all my friends and family because W. Dixon does an amazing job of explaining a yet always letting you really decide the ending.

.Dreamhunter is an enthralling story written by Elizabeth Knox. It is a well-written story that contains plenty of description and details. The imagery is clear and the setting is truly unique. Elizabeth has written a story about a subject that everyone can relate to: dreams.
Elizabeth Knox forces her readers to use their imagination in her unique fantasy novel about a young girl, Laura Hame. Laura becomes a dreamhunter and finds herself venturing into “the place” to catch dreams that cannot be found outside of the “place”. However, Laura keeps encountering nightmares about convicts. She quickly learns of the corruption of her government and the atrocities that are being committed against the convicts in her countries. Laura is the only dreamhunter that can warn her country about the horrors occurring in her country.
Laura must make all of the visitors of the Rainbow Opera suffer through the “Dreadful Dream”. A nightmare in which all viewers are a convict being buried alive. Whenever Laura sleeps, she must relive the horror of the nightmare. I can relate to having nightmares but reliving the experience whenever I slept would be painful.
I enjoyed this book because I could relate to having dreams. The detail was incredible and created a clear-cut image in my head. However, the early chapters were slow and slightly monotonous, but it quickly picked up. The end was astonishing and left me wanting to read the next in the series. I recommend this book to all readers who are looking for fantasy and a new adventure.

I just finished reading the book silver is for secrets. This is a great book on a count of it has suspense and keeps the reader interested. I’m the type of of person that if the book doesn’t captivate me, I can get easily distracted. However, this particular book engaged me and kept me focused on the words in front of me.
Silver is for secrets is about a girl named Stacey Brown. She and her friends decide to take one last summer trip together before they go their separate ways off to college. But the normal, relaxing trip Stacey was banking on turns into a quest to save a girl, Clara, in trouble. At least she thought Clara was in trouble. Thats what her nightmares were telling and she didn’t think she could ignore listening to them. Determined, Stacey does not realize that by attempting to save Clara, she will be putting the one person who matters most in terrible danger.
This book is great to read and the description makes everything so vivid. Silver is for secrets is the third book in a series. I have read almost all of them and thoroughly enjoyed each of them. I would definitely recommend this book and the whole series to any reader.

.The last book I read is called ”Who is Bugs Potter”? written by Gordan Korman. Dave Potter “called Bugs by his friends” is a fifteen year-old drummer; a fantastic drummer. He is the world’s best drummer. In fact he is The Most. Bugs is in Toronto with his band members practicing to play at the North Western High Music Festival. But the music they play is boring, music that Bugs thinks no one should have to practice. Bugs meets his roommate Adam. They are staying with their band members at the Hotel Empress. He is in Toronto to play with Bug’s school band. Adam is a flute-dude to Bugs, but a flautist to everyone else. Adam is a very different guy than Bugs. Unlike Bugs, he likes to stay out of trouble. But being roommates, they decide that it would be best to get along.
With Mr.Darby being their music instructor, it is hard to stay out of trouble. Mr.Darby is the kind of person who wants everything to be perfect. He always criticizes the flautists, the drummers, and the guitarists. He told them that practice was at 9:00 am sharp every morning. Anyone who is late for practice is not allowed to participate in the night activity. Trying to adapt to the time change, the next morning Bugs and Adam were twenty minutes late for practice. Mr. Darby didn’t allow them to join the rest of the group at their trip to the Royal Toronto Museum. At 7:00 pm, the band members left to the museum. Bugs came up with the idea that him and Adam should sneak out and go to the club where his favorite band, Plankton, was playing. He wanted to disguise himself in a black mustache to get in the club. Adam remembered that Mr. Darby mentioned that all roommates are responsible for each other. Adam did not want to break the 9:00 pm curfew. But before Adam tried to stop Bugs from leaving, Bugs was already out the door. Adam decided that it was best to follow Bugs and bring him back to the hotel. But Adam couldn’t convince Bugs to come back.
When Adam and Bugs got to the club, Bugs told Adam that he was going to use the washroom. But instead, Bugs went backstage and asked Plankton if he could play with them. Although Plankton didn’t know Bugs, they still gave him a chance. Plankton introduced Bugs to the crowd. As soon as Bugs started drumming with the band, everyone was surprised. He was so good that even Plankton couldn’t keep up with him. Adam thought that if anyone knew who Bugs was, they would both be in trouble. So he decided that it would be best to get Bugs off stage this instant. Adam went on stage, grabbed Bugs, and they both left out the backstage exit. The crowd was going wild for Bugs. Even though they didn’t know is real identity, they still wanted more of his drumming talent. Bugs couldn’t believe he had fans. As soon as they left the club, they ran to the hotel and went up to their hotel room. They went to bed, because it was midnight and they didn’t want to be late for practice.
Even though Bugs and Adam went to bed early last night because of practice, they were still late. Because they were late, Mr. Darby didn’t allow them to go to the Toronto Music Garden with the rest of the group. Again, Bugs wanted to leave the Hotel Empress and go to the club where another one of his favorite bands, Endomorph, were playing. With Bugs being so stubborn, Adam couldn’t stop Bugs from going to the club. Bugs put on his black mustache, and made Adam put on his blonde mustache. They both left to the club at 7:00 pm. As soon as they got there, Bugs went backstage and asked Endomoprh, if he could play with them. Endomorph heard good things about Bugs Potter from the past night and thought that it would be good for him to play with them. Endomoprh introduced Bugs Potter to the audience. Bugs was doing very well on stage. The crowd was screaming “Bugs, Bugs, Bugs”, which made Bugs play even harder. Adam again thought that if Bugs doesn’t come off stage, his real identity would be shown. He went on stage, grabbed Bugs, and they both left the club from the backstage exit. They ran as fast as they could to the hotel. They went up to their rooms, hopping they’re not late for practice the next morning.
The next morning they were on time for practice. But they were so bad at playing their instruments, that Mr. Darby kept them all day long in their rooms practicing. When the group left for another night activity, Bugs and Adam left to the club where they played with The Rockers. Bugs was drumming with the band on stage, and Adam was in the crowd watching. After two hours of playing with the band, Adam and Bugs left the club and went back to their hotel room. But before Bugs left the stage, he announced that he is going to be playing at the North Western High Music Festival and he wanted everyone to be there. This is where Bugs’s and Adam’s school band where playing.
It was happening every night. They get banned from going to the trips and they sneak out to play with bands. Bugs has played with different bands including Plankton, Endomoprh, Midnight, and The Rockers. By now it was all over the newspapers. The headlines were ”Who Is Bugs Potter”? The next day it was the North Western High Music Festival. The band members got their instruments together and headed to the Festival which was held at Ontario Place. As soon as they got there, everyone was setting up for the festival. The place was packed with people waiting to see Bugs Potter. After Bugs’s and Adam’s band played, the host told the crowd that it was time for Bugs Potter’s performance. Bugs got on stage in front of his fans without the mustache, because he thought that everyone should know his true identity. When he started drumming, everyone was surprised including Mr. Darby. Everyone noticed that he is The Most, because of his drumming skills. Before he was done his solo, all the bands that Bugs has played with in clubs showed up on stage to play with him. Bugs couldn’t believe what he was seeing. When they were all done playing their music, they all thanked Bugs for his amazing talent. The band came back to the Hotel Empress to gather their things and belongings. Everyone was saying goodbye to their roommates. Adam and Bugs were saying goodbye as well. They promised each other that they are going to come to the next festival. Adam told Bugs that he is going to write him letters and Bugs is going to send him pictures. They both went their seperate ways, but they knew that they were going to meet again some day.
One of the posts that I read is Shelby Berg’s ”The uncertainty of the future”. In my opinion she wrote the post in a very descriptive way. She brought different perspectives into the topic. Shelby tied her topic about the uncertainty of the future with a creative story that she had experienced with her family the past summer. That is the same in my post as well. Since I am talking about a teenager who wants to show that world his talent by sneaking out every night, I have also experienced this event before. A few summers ago, I was camping at a camp where we played music. My friend, Elliot, would sneak out to play different kinds of music than the music we were taught at the camp. Me and Shelby both tied our stories together, making a connection between the two. By doing that, we help the reader understand the topic better. Shelby states her own opinion about the topic and clearly shows the reader her perspective about the future. I picked her post, because it had a unique outline and it was enjoyable to read.
I recommend this book, because it is full of humor and intensity. It talks about the life of a normal teenager, who wants to go out and show the world his talent. It may also inspire people by showing them that if you’re not brave enough to show other people your talents and skills, you are not going to go very far in life.

.Over the past couple of days I have been reading a book called “Goosebumps- Ghost Beach.”
In Ghost Beach Jerry Sadler and his sister Terri travel to New England to visit their cousins Bradford and Agatha. Terri has many different hobbies, strangely her favorite is gravestone rubbings. After they arrived Agatha let the kids go out and take a look around the place. When they arrived at the graveyard Terri began inspecting the tombstones. When she came upon a tombstone engraved “Here lies the body of Mr. John Saddler, departed March 18, 1642.” Many questions ran through her head like, is he related to us? How did he die?
Jerry and Terri finally made it to the beach to realize it wasn’t much of beach just a bunch of rocks with a bit of sand. While on the beach Terri discovered a cave up on some rocks. The kids heard a loud whistling sound coming from the cave and then a bat came flying out at them in mid day. As Terri was screaming Jerry realized it was just a kite and three other children couldn’t stop laughing at them. Terri and Jerry walked over to the kids and introduced themselves. Sam, Louisa, and Nat were Sadlers who had lived there for all there lives. Terri asked if anyone had ever been up in the cave on the beach and Louisa’s eyes grew wide as she asked “do you believe in ghosts?” “Believe in ghosts? No way!” Sam warned them about going by the cave or they might change there mind.
The next morning Agatha told Terri about a place in the forest where they could find many types of plants and flowers. while pulling on a root Jerry thought was an Indian Pipe he discovered more then he planned. Out of the ground came a skeleton. Shortly after Sam, Louisa, and Nat showed up to be frightened by the skeleton. All Sam could say is the ghost killed this dog because dogs can detect whose a ghost and whose not. Louisa tried to say more but Sam pulled her and Nat away. Terri and Jerry ignored Sam’s warning and went into the cave to see what the flickering light was. When they climbed up to the cave they were surprised to find the light was a candle but couldn’t stay long because they were chased out of there by a ghost. So they thought. The next day they told Sam, Louisa, and Nat about this and they made a plan to trap the ghost in the cave because the walls are sacred and nobody could leave once trapped inside. The second time Terri and Jerry went into the cave they were caught and drug deeper and deeper in. They soon realized it was a man named Harrison Sadler and he was trying to protect them from Sam, Louisa, and Nat, the real ghost. Terri finally got the three up into the cave and? To find out the rest of the story go to the school library and read “Ghost Beach.”
Out of all the Goosebumps books I have read this one has definitely been my favorite. If you are looking for a short but interesting book this is the one. It keeps you guessing until the very end. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good mystery and hope you enjoy “Ghost Beach” as much as me.

.Laura Langston gave me an experience that I will never forget.Langston vividly described the hardships of the Ukrainian immigrants and how they learned to be strong and how they learned to be strong and handle the setbacks that life throws at you. Lesia learned from her mistakes and understood that God creates setbacks to make you stronger, and with perseverance you can succeed whatever she put her mind to.
Lesia Magus is a fifteen-year-old girl living in a small village in the Ukraine controlled by the Russians. Her life consists of going to work, then coming home with her wages. She is denied the right to go to school due to lack of finances. Lesia has one dream. She wants to move her family over to Canada, a peaceful country, that has fields of golden wheat, and security from the war. Lesia is determined to save enough money for her family’s passage to Canada. Lesia and her brother, Ivan, keeps her dream a secret, until they reach their goal of saving enough money. Lesia’s family doesn’t agree with moving to Canada when they have their family, friends and home in Ukraine. Ivan and Lesia convinces their family to leave Ukraine, so they can escape the war, so her Papa and brother don’t have to enlist in the army. The only person Lesia cannot convince to come with them is her beloved Baba. On the trip over to Canada by boat Lesia vividly describes the chaos occurring on the ship. The trip is unsanitary and is a health hazard to her and her family. Luckily, Lesia, Ivan, her Papa, and mother, and her little sister, Sonia, arrive in Canada alive. The arrival at their new country starts out with comments from the non-Ukrainians, like bohunk, and honky. The Magus family is taken advantage of, and spends unnecessary money on amenities for their new land. The Magus’s do not understand the language, and people that are now surrounding them. Lesia believes that all of the havoc, will be worth the new land, and new life that awaits them.
Lesia’s faith comes crashing down when they see their 160 acre piece of land. The land is covered in large rooted trees, heavy boulders, and tough soil. This does not phase Lesia and her dream, even though her family doesn’t have any money, a home, or any supplies except the cherished memoirs form their home country. Due to lack of money Lesia’s papa and brother leave home to search for a job. The two men leave their home, as soon as they finish building a burdei, and a clay oven. Now, Lesia is faced with clearing ten acres of land by herself, and supporting her pregnant mother by herself.
Lesia is lucky enough to meet Andrew Korol, a Ukrainian immigrant who lived in Canada for several years, when his family moved to Canada. Andrew was fortunate enough to succeed in the farming business, and earn the respect of the non-Ukrainians, who do not accept Lesia and the Magus family. Lesia quickly becomes friends with him, and turns to Andrew for support when the war follows them to Canada, and when the Ukrainians are considered enemies of the state. Lesia’s hopes comes crashing down when her brother is caught lying about his citizenship. Ivan is locked up in jail and is sent to work everyday. Then, when Lesia’s Papa goes to the prison to visit he, as well ends up in jail. Lesia is crushed and gives up faith on her dream. But with a few encouraging words from Andrew, she decides to take the circumstances and use them to her advantage, to gain respect and fulfill her dream of living in Canada. Lesia begins working the land with all her time and making sure her family is fed, and well taken care of. Lesia believes in herself, however she doesn’t know if that is enough to succeed.
Lesia’s Dream was very captivating. I had difficulties putting the book down to do my actual homework, and my chores. The book had very descriptive scenes, and a well planned story line that made this book so intriguing. I would reccommend this book to teenagers who loves to read about history, pioneers, and enjoys reading very descriptive books.
